Infura Down
Infura went down yesterday, along with blockchair and other projects dependent on it, such as Metamask. The culprit was a silent hard fork in ethereum. While hard forks happen quite often on the Ethereum blockchain, this one broke older versions of Geth, such as the one Infura was running.
The downtime in many projects led to developer David Mihal putting together a website listing a few popular RPC endpoints which users or projects can connect to in the case Infura or their current endpoint goes down. Users can do so by following the instructions here, using the RPC endpoint URL of their choice.
Yesterday highlighted the importance of node robustness. I encourage readers to look into how to run a node themselves. Projects like DappNode make it easy, and projects like Pocket Network help incentivize decentralized node infrastructure.
Aave V2 Testnet
Aave V2 is now on testnet. See the list of changes in V2 here. At a glance, the changes seem like they should make the protocol more efficient.
Thorchain Testnet
THORChain, a cross-chain swap protocol has just released its multichain testnet MCTN1. Users can swap between Bitcoin and Binance Chain assets, and provide Bitcoin or BNB liquidity.
DFD Uniswap Rewards
Uniswap incentives are beginning soon for DeFiDollar. DeFiDollar is a stablecoin index backed asset project that uses Defi primitives to stay near the dollar mark.
